Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity, which recognizes the variety of brains and learning styles, has emerged as a fundamental concept in education. It is no longer a matter of adapting students to a rigid system, but of adapting the system to the needs of each student.
Why is attention to neurodiversity important?
- Inclusion and equity: Every student, regardless of their neurocognitive differences, deserves the opportunity to learn and develop in an environment that respects their particularities.
- Development of potential: By recognizing and valuing the strengths of each student, they are given the opportunity to exploit their capabilities to the fullest.
- Improved school climate: An inclusive and respectful environment fosters empathy, collaboration and the well-being of the entire educational community.
- Life skills: Schools must prepare students for an increasingly diverse and inclusive world of work.
The Liceo Sorolla School has its own center for attention to diversity (Centro Yume). We attend to all types of learning needs and the specialists work directly with the students’ teachers and tutors. By having a specialized center within the school, we improve communication and collaboration between the parties, achieving amazing results. We have specialists in clinical psychology, speech therapy, dyslexia, learning disorders, etc.
In addition, our teachers are systematically trained in order to detect and manage different educational needs. They work with different strategies within the classroom in order to make teaching more flexible, adapt learning methodologies and use technologies that facilitate access to information.
Our goal is to reinforce the self-esteem and autonomy of our students, making them aware of their strengths and giving them tools to overcome their difficulties. Neurodiversity is a reality that we must recognize and value. By creating inclusive learning environments, we are building a more just and equitable future for all.
